Felix @ The Peninsula Hong Kong
The Peninsula Hong Kong was created from a vision to be the finest hotel in the east and it certainly still holds true today after 85 glorious years of operation. Opening its doors in 1928 in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, “the Pen” as it’s known locally has lived through some of the darkest years of the colony’s history post the Battle of Hong Kong, then rising again as Hong Kong enjoyed enviable economic prosperity and international recognition.
A 30-storey tower constructed following the original style of the building was added 20 years ago in 1994 which introduced the lead character of my post – Felix.
Occupying the top two floors overlooking Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island, the glamorous and evocative Felix was designed by globally renowned designer Philippe Starck. Testament to his creative genius, even after 20 years, Felix’s dramatic surreal interior evoking class and sophistication still leaves a lasting impression on first-time visitors like myself.
The ambience at Felix is outstanding on its own but a live jazz band takes it to a whole new level. Wanting to celebrate Christmas somewhere special, it wasn’t difficult deciding on Felix. We opted for the 5-course Christmas set dinner and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
