I Love Hotels ❤ The Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur
As a frequent visitor to Kuala Lumpur I’ve stayed in quite a few hotels, especially around the Bukit Bintang area, but The Ritz Carlton is a first.
Connected to the high-end Star Hill Gallery, adjoining neighbour five-star hotel JW Marriott, The Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur is set back from the main thoroughfare Jalan Bukit Bintang. The 7-storey Star Hill Gallery, features the largest watch gallery in the world, is targeted to the ultra rich so unless you have really deep pockets, The Pavilion Mall across the road is much more palatable.
All three properties is owned by Malaysian Conglomerate YTL Corporation which runs a number of hotels internationally, including the Sydney Harbour Marriott.
With two distinct wings, hotel and residence, combined The Ritz offers 365 rooms and suites. We opted for the Executive Suite which boosts a King bedroom with marble ensuite, walk-in robe and a separate living room with its own guest toilet. Generous space and attention to detail where everything is branded and finished in a consistently high quality, from chocolate, towels to pillow cases, all added to the suite’s opulence.
The 700 square feet Executive Suite is tastefully decorated with plush furnishing, dark toned woods and rich earthy tones to create a warm, cosy yet elegant ambience. The spacious living area is ideal for inviting friends in town over for a catch up. Full butler service is available if you need anything and complimentary pressing and limousine service (for use around town, booking essential) is handy.
The outdoor swimming pool is underwhelming and feels very confined but apparently the hotel has two pools, the other is more of a sanctuary for adults. Unfortunately hotel staff failed to mention this so all I saw was this family/kids pool. Luckily the sauna, steam and Jacuzzi made up for the let down.
Suite guests receive complimentary breakfast at luxe César’s Restaurant which offers a continental style buffet station as well as an impressive all-you-can-eat a la carte menu boosting Indian, Malaysian, Japanese and Chinese dishes. The Mee Goreng – Malaysian style stir fried yellow noodles with bean sprouts, egg, chicken and prawns – was my favourite but breakfast overall was simply spectacular.
Complimentary traditional afternoon tea for two at the Lobby Lounge, presenting fine bone china, immaculately polished silverware and 40 blends of specialty teas is also available to Suite guests. This sophisticated lounge is a great place to relax and unwind, but it’d be even better if it was smoke free. All Suite guests also get access to the Library Lounge located in the residence wing which we didn’t get time to visit over our two-night stay.
Overall, The Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur offers a luxury hotel experience, combining intimacy, comfort, exclusivity and a personalised service, all hallmarks of the Ritz Carlton brand. The only thing that impacted negatively on our stay was the noise from the construction site opposite our room. Apart from that, will be happy to recommend.
Next month we’ll be staying at the larger 807 square feet Westin Suite in the neighbouring Westin Hotel…
I love staying at hotels, new and luxe ones that is. Met with a warm welcome as you enter a grand lobby and opening the doors and seeing the sophisticated and thoughtful interiors of a fresh immaculate room…’I ❤ Hotels’ is a series where I share hotel experiences that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed.

I recently checked into the Premier Suite at ritz-carlton kuala lumpur and cannot help how exactly similar my room looks compared to yours right down to everything except for the two chairs. Since you said your room is an Executive Suite, it now makes me wonder whether I have been shortchanged since the premier suite would be 893 sq ft in size as opposed to 700 sq ft, and I cannot find any photos how a premier suite would look like internally. The front desk manager was adamant that this is a premier suite. I really feel let down and felt like I’ve been deprived of the chance to experience a Premier Suite stay. Any suggestions and advice on how I can backup a claim. Thanks very much in advance.

Hi John, I checked my booking confirmation again and the room I had was definitely an Executive Suite and I don’t recall being upgraded upon check-in. The two suites do look rather similar as you can see from this post: http://goodyfoodies.blogspot.com.au/2013/05/hotel-review-premier-suite-ritz-carlton.html However I didn’t have a dinning table in my suite and that’s the only obvious difference I can see. Hope this helps

Thank you Timothy for confirming my suspicion that I was definitely downgraded to an Executive Suite and trying to pass if off as a Premier Suite. And how the front office manager try to further cover up for the mistake by claiming that the Ritz-Carlton website is out-of-date. I just cannot believe an international reputable hotel chain would have an out-of-date website. Making a mistake and then instead of making good, I’m led to believe another lie. Something is absolutely wrong with the staff.
