I LOVE HOTELS ❤ Sheraton on the Park, Sydney
Sheraton on the Park must be one of the oldest hotels in Sydney, though I can’t seem to find it’s official opening year but sources say it’s been around for more than 75 years! Obviously what we see today is the result of plenty of upgrades over the years, and this 557-room five-star hotel in the heart of Sydney, opposite picturesque Hyde Park, remain one of the leading luxury hotels on offer.
The hotel was sold late 2014 for a record AU$463 million, that’s over AU$830,000 per room, to China based Sunshine Insurance Group. This was the highest price per room achieved for a large Australian hotel at the time. It doesn’t sound too high now considering a small one bedroom apartment in the city will easily set you back AU$1M.
At 40sqm, the City Side room was spacious which comfortably fitted a King size bed, small walk-in, lounge area and a workstation. Personally I wouldn’t call it luxurious and whilst it’s well maintained, age is probably starting to catch up. If luxe is what you’re after, you’d be much better off opting for one of 48 recently renovated suites designed by the famed Joseph Pang.
Views from the Rooftop Pool and Terrace is definitely the highlight, commanding panoramic views over Hyde Park, the twin-spire Gothic style St Mary’s Cathedral and out into Woolloomooloo. It’s definitely not hard to lounge here all day…The pool itself is on the small side but they do have a well-equipped gym that offers public membership.
The public areas including the restaurant was renovated as part of the AU$40 million suites upgrades, which brings us to Feast – Sheraton’s signature buffet restaurant offering a contemporary dining experience. Breakfast is always busy and there was a short queue, but the team at Feast runs it like a well-oiled machine, so you’re seated not before long. There’s plenty of choice and something for everyone.
In all honestly, I wouldn’t mind road-testing one of their suites but if it’s the standard room, then there are better options in Sydney.
